Oral Health & Safe Water Education Project

Children and individuals with developmental disabilities are facing a growing but preventable challenge—tooth decay and oral-health disparities linked to poor water quality and limited access to care.

The Oral Health & Safe Water Education Project, led by We C.A.R.E. For All in collaboration with Find Dental Providers (FDP Consulting), is bringing education, access, and equity together to change that narrative.

The Challenge

When residents rely on a privately owned water system that has raised serious concerns about safety, chemical additives, and mineral content. Many families avoid using tap water altogether—without realizing that this leads to reduced fluoride exposure and a higher risk of cavities in children.

At the same time, individuals with developmental disabilities face additional barriers to preventive dental care, from sensory sensitivities to a lack of trained providers.

The result?

A widening gap in oral health—and an urgent need for trusted, community-based education and support.

Our Response

Through bilingual workshops, free preventive screenings, and safe-water awareness events, this project empowers families with practical tools to protect their health right now. We can reach hundreds of residents across East Contra Costa County with hands-on education, dental navigation, and caregiver support.

Why It Matters

Healthy smiles open doors—to learning, confidence, and opportunity.

By addressing oral health and water safety together, we’re not just treating a symptom; we’re tackling a root cause of health inequity in our region.
